IAHCSMM Teams with Prometric Computer-based Testing Services
CHICAGO – The International Association for Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) has partnered with Baltimore-based Prometric, a leading computer-based testing and assessment service provider.
The arrangement, which should be in place this summer, will make testing easier for central service professionals and will offer more security than previous testing formats.
"We wanted to make testing more convenient, and at the same time, create a more secure testing environment. Working with Prometric will help us accomplish those important goals," said IAHCSMM president Lyndle Dorrell.
CS employees wishing to take the certification exam should find the computer-based testing centers more appealing than previous "pencil and paper" methods. Rather than trying to fit an exam into busy health care schedules, Prometric works around the test taker by administering exams six days per week in more than 300 computer testing centers throughout the United States and Canada.
To schedule an exam, CS professionals simply phone into a general call center where Prometric representatives help locate the most conveniently located testing center. The actual testing process is just as easy. Upon arrival at the testing site, individuals are greeted and seated, and then given a brief tutorial on how to take the test.
"The process couldn’t be simpler, even if you aren’t very familiar with computers. If you can use a phone to schedule an appointment and can use one finger on a keyboard, you can take the test," explained Gerald Rosen, Ph.D., executive consultant, Prometric.
Computer-based testing offers other benefits as well. Electronic tests are coded and encrypted, and can’t be copied or lost in the mail. And because the centers are highly proctored, someone is always available to answer questions.
"We are excited to work with IAHCSMM and are confident that Prometric will make test taking a more positive experience for its members," he said.
